BuknR Ltd. ("BuknR", "we", "us", or "our") operates the BuknR mobile and web application (the "App"), a marketplace that connects event space hosts with customers looking to discover and book venues. We are committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who uses the App — customers, hosts, and staff members alike. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, store, and protect your information, and describes the rights you have over it.

Information we Collect

We may collect various types of information from users, including:

Account & Profile Data: Name, email address, phone number, profile photo, and other contact details provided during account registration or when booking a space.
Host & Staff Data: If you list a space or are added as staff on a space, we collect business details, space/venue information and photos, staff role and permission assignments (Owner, Manager, Front Desk, Finance, Viewer), and payout details needed to send you your earnings.
Booking & Transaction Data: Reservation dates, pricing, service fees, booking status, and transaction history for spaces you book or host.
Payment Data: Bookings are paid for through our third-party payment processor, Paystack. BuknR does not collect or store your full card number, CVV, or bank account credentials on our servers — that data is collected and stored directly by Paystack in accordance with its own privacy policy and applicable card industry (PCI DSS) standards. We retain the transaction metadata Paystack shares with us, such as payment status, amount, currency, and a payment reference.
Usage Data: Information about how users interact with the App, including IP address, device type, browser type, operating system, pages visited, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
Device & Push Notification Data: If you enable notifications, we (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) collect a device token used to deliver booking updates and other alerts to your device.
Social Login Data: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google as permitted by your Google account settings.
Cookies & Session Data: We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and to recognize your device between visits. See the "Cookies & Similar Technologies" section below for more detail.

Use of Information

We may use the collected information for the following purposes:

To provide and maintain the App, including processing bookings, facilitating payments and payouts, and delivering services requested by users.
To personalize user experience and improve the quality of our services, including analyzing usage patterns, troubleshooting technical issues, and conducting research and analytics.
To send transactional and account communications, such as booking confirmations, payment receipts, and push notifications, as well as (where you have opted in) product updates and promotional offers.
To verify host identity and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized transactions on the App.
To comply with legal obligations, including tax and financial record-keeping requirements, resolve disputes, and enforce our terms and policies.

Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

Essential cookies: An encrypted session cookie keeps you signed in and protects your account. The App will not function correctly without these.
Analytics cookies: Used to understand how the App is used so we can improve it.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies will prevent you from signing in.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share user information only with the following categories of third parties, as necessary to provide and improve our services:

Paystack — to process payments and payouts.
Cloudinary — to store and deliver images uploaded for space listings and profiles.
Google Firebase — to deliver push notifications to your device.
Google — to support sign-in with your Google account, where you choose to use it.
Email service providers — to deliver transactional emails such as booking confirmations and receipts.
Cloud infrastructure providers — to host our database and application servers.
Hosts and their assigned staff, limited to the booking details needed to fulfill a reservation at their space.
Legal and regulatory authorities, where required to comply with the law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
A successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the same protections described in this Policy.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than the one in which you live, including where our service providers operate. Where we do this, we take steps intended to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection wherever it is processed.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect user data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. This includes encryption, access controls, and regular security assessments. However, please note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and any applicable regulator as required by law.

Data Retention

We retain user data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. For example, we retain booking and payment transaction records for the period required by applicable tax and financial regulations, even after you close your account. When data is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize it.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your Privacy Rights

BuknR Ltd. is registered in Ghana, and we process personal data in accordance with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), under the oversight of the Data Protection Commission. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under other applicable law, such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation or U.S. state privacy laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act. These rights may include the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
Request deletion of your data, subject to our legal and contractual retention obligations.
Restrict or object to certain processing of your data.
Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can exercise these rights by contacting us using the information below. You can also opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in those emails, or by disabling push notifications in your device settings.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Updated" date at the top of this page, and where changes are material, we will provide additional notice, such as an in-app notification or an email.
